Personality; Yukiko Amagi was born and raised in a small town in Japan called Inaba. She has never left this quiet town in all sixteen years of her life. As a result she's more than a little sheltered. Her family runs a popular hot springs inn styled after a more traditional one, complete with the employees wearing kimonos. Ever since Yukiko was a little girl she was told that she would one day be the owner of this inn. She was trained to be the manager, learning about all the daily and nightly processes of the place. It was a duty she seemed to accept without question. Due to the inn's popularity in the town Yukiko is often forced to put on this type of public face. She plays the role of "traditional Japanese beauty" quite well. Once when she was still young she found a puppy and her parents told her to toss it away because she couldn't keep it at the inn. A young Chie found her crying with it by the riverside and, as Chie later describes the incident to Souji, Yukiko looked like "she was dead inside" which hints to her true feelings that she had buried in her heart. At that time Chie did everything she could to make her smile and this was how they became best friends. (Also Chie took the dog in Yukiko's stead.)

Fast forward a bit to high school where Yukiko attends Yasogami High alongside Chie. When she is first introduced to Souji she is quite distant and shy. She is very proper, polite and ladylike in every way. It is revealed that she is pretty popular among the boys at school for her lovely looks but also for her tendency to reject every guy who has ever asked her out. This is dubbed as the Amagi Challenge by the rest of the school. As it turns out she is also quite naive and dense about these matters, oblivious to her notorious popularity. She's equally oblivious to her bluntness when it comes to turning down potential suitors. When Mitsuo asks her out Yukiko flat out rejects him without even realizing he was asking her out on a date in the first place. She does the same to Yosuke only a few seconds later. Her nativity in this regard is a reoccurring character trait where she also outright ignores Yosuke when he asks for her number. Thus she can be a bit of an airhead and overall spacey due to her cluelessness. Overall she speaks little to Souji in the beginning and is constantly leaving right after school to help at the inn. Sometimes she even skips class for her work which speaks to her dedication as well. Souji eventually encounters her alone one day sitting near the river in her pink kimono. She opens up a bit more to Souji this time, still shy and reserved yet now showing him that she is also very kind and friendly. This friendliness shows up again and again, specifically much later in her willingness to bring Naoto into their group activities and make friends with her despite her initial awkwardness. She is quite good at looking past reputations in this regard for she was also friends with the delinquent Kanji for awhile even before he joined the team but after he gained a poor reputation.

The peace in Inaba is shattered one day when an affair with a famous enka singer, a news reporter and a political figure breaks out. Shortly thereafter the news reporter, who had been staying at the Amagi Inn, is found dead and hanging from telephone wires in the middle of town. The bizarre murders cause widespread speculation and concern. When a second body shows up police begin to suspect a serial case and go on the hunt for the culprit. Meanwhile Souji, Yosuke and Chie discover a bizarre TV world possibly connected to the murders and the strange Shadows that live there. The three discover the Midnight Channel, which shows the image of the person whom will be murdered next. If the person is not rescued from the TV before the fog sets in then they will die.

Shortly thereafter Yukiko disappears only to reappear on the Midnight Channel wearing a princess outfit against the backdrop of a fairytale style castle. She flirts with the camera, tells the audience she is going to find herself a ~*hotstud*~ and then runs off inside. All in all she acts very much unlike her normal self. The others launch their rescue attempt and find Yukiko inside the strange castle. The Yukiko that appeared on the TV is actually her Shadow. The Shadow reveals Yukiko's resentment towards her family's inn and how she hates that her life has already been chosen for her. She longs for a "Prince Charming" to rescue her from her pitiful life and to steal her away so she can run from her responsibilities. The Shadow accuses her of being a coward who can't do anything for herself and that's why she needs a prince to save her. Yukiko, horrified, rejects the Shadow and thus gives it the ability to transform into a terrible monster.

Souji, Yosuke and Chie quickly protect her and defeat her Shadow. Yukiko confronts it and admits it as a part of herself. She admits to these feels of resentment toward her family and for being too weak to make any decisions on the matter for herself. She promises that she'll work to grow stronger and move past her weaknesses, accepting her Shadow and gaining her Persona as a result. From there on Yukiko joins the team and we finally see the other side of her personality. While originally coming off as an elegant but rather introverted young woman who is soft spoken and often shy, she is now much friendlier and relaxed after facing her inner deamons. In fact she is actually quite a lively and upbeat person. After confronting her Shadow Yukiko seems to lose her "gloomy" side that she presents in the beginning of the game and gains a sunnier disposition. She's generally cheerful throughout the rest of the game and is even prone to fits of hysterical laughter after hearing a bad pun or joke. Or seeing something utterly ridiculous as is the case with the funny glasses she puts on. Or, in most cases, she simply laughs at random things she somehow finds humor in. She's also surprisingly competitive when the situation arises and threatens Rise during their cooking competition. Yukiko consistently received top marks on her test scores. Although infamous at school as the girl who shoots everyone down (AKA the Amagi Challenge) she has an equal reputation for being gifted in academics. She often tutors her less booksmart friends

Her social link reveals her desire to be her own person and make a life for herself but unwilling to leave her family behind. She shows great determination in this goal proving that she is also very driven and dedicated when she sets her mind on something. Additionally during the link Yukiko is revealed to be a terrible cook and can't seem to make a decent dish to save her life. As the link continues Yukiko begins to rethink her choice to leave Inaba and the inn behind as she realizes how much the workers of the inn mean to her. She shows a more aggressive and protective side when it comes to those she cares about, snapping angrily and challenging the media when they continue to harass her and her family. Eventually she decides to stay, having found her resolve in the kindness in love of her inn family. She realizes that it wasn't the task of inheriting the inn itself that bothered her. Rather it was the idea that it was being forced upon her and not of her own free will. Upon making the decision all by herself she feels like she has become a stronger willed person, no longer relying on others to make her decisions for her or to protect her.

This shows that at Yukiko's core she values her own decisions. She wants to make her own choices good or bad. She wants to be independent. However it also shows that she will do anything for her loved ones. The love her family shows for her makes her realize that she can be independent without abandoning those who have shown her kindness. In turn she makes the choice to help them by protecting the inn and Inaba in which she lives. She shows similar resolve to the Protagonist and her other friends though this extends especially to Chie. Despite the overflowing kindness and her other oddities Yukiko isn't a pushover. Girl is fierce and has angry eyes harsh enough to make all the boys in the party fear her to some degree. She has a bit of a fiery streak in her (pun not intended) that sparks to life every now and then. Usually when she's being competitive or something angers her.

"Welcome home."

Yukiko's head was still spinning. Home? No. No, this wasn't home. This wasn't anything like home. This was...

She found herself standing in the camp surrounded by others. Some were milling about and some looked just as lost and confused as she was. One thing was clear to Yukiko: this wasn't her home. She had no idea where this was but it definitely wasn't where she belonged. She turned her head to gaze to her right and her long hair moved weightlessly with the movement. She tucked a loose strand behind her ear and began to walk on.

But how did I get here? That was the first question on her mind. She couldn't remember... assuming there was anything to remember. Last she had been in Inaba saying goodbye to the dearest friend she'd ever known. Next thing she was here, speaking to a woman who seemed strangely... familiar? But no, that couldn't be right. She had called Yukiko a "half breed". What did that mean? Her greeter had been very tight lipped on the whole thing. Telling her not to worry but not explaining a thing... how absurd.

Shaking her head, Yukiko continued to explore her surroundings. And she was supposedly in New York now? Even more absurd! Even after all the things she'd experienced and witnessed... somehow this just seemed much too farfetched for her. She certainly didn't remember boarding a plane to get here! Or maybe... the TV world lead her here? But she didn't remember going through a portal either. It just didn't add up. That aside, her next concern was her friends. She stopped walking and attempted to flag down someone near by.

"Ah... excuse me..." she began and then hesitated. Wait, if this was New York... could anyone even understand her?

It didn't seem to matter. The person appeared to just ignore her anyway and Yukiko frowned. I hope that whatever is going on that the others are all right... Inaba too. They really had ended it all, right? The fog, the TV world, that goddess... they couldn't possibly be behind this. No, this was something else.

And no matter what Yukiko was determined to find out what.
